June 17: Bang on a Can Marathon Opens River To River Festival; 12 Hours of Free Music at WFC

New York, NY (May 17, 2012) — On Sunday, June 17, from noon until midnight, Bang on a Can continues celebrating its 25th year with the annual Bang on a Can Marathon, FREE for the public at World Financial Center Winter Garden (220 Vesey Street, NYC), presented by River To River® Festival, Arts Brookfield, and Bang on a Can. The Marathon has been the opening event of River To River Festival for seven years, kicking off the month-long celebration of free music, dance, film, and arts events throughout Lower Manhattan.

Apr 28: Bang on a Can celebrates 25 years with triple bill concert at Lincoln Center

New York, NY (March 28, 2012) — Bang on a Can takes over Alice Tully Hall presented by Lincoln Center’s Great Performers series in a triple-bill birthday bash on Saturday, April 28 at 7pm featuring the Bang on a Can All-Stars, Asphalt Orchestra, and MIT’s Gamelan Galak Tika. Bang on a Can is celebrating 25 years during 2012, having grown from a one-day New York-based Marathon concert (on Mother’s Day in 1987 in a SoHo art gallery) to a multi-faceted performing arts organization with a broad range of year-round international activities.

Apr 12: Bang on a Can All-Stars in music by Brian Eno, Thurston Moore, Nancarrow, more in Naperville

Chicago, IL — The Bang on a Can All-Stars, known for combining “the power and punch of a rock band with the precision and clarity of a chamber ensemble” (New York Times), will perform their signature realization of Brian Eno’s ambient milestone Music for Airports, plus Conlon Nancarrow’s Four Player Piano Studies, Michael Gordon’s For Madeline, Evan Ziporyn’s Music from Shadowbang, three short pieces by the Dirty Projector’s David Longstreth (Instructional Video, Matt Damon and Breakfast at J&M), and Thurston Moore’s (of Sonic Youth) Stroking Piece #1 on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 8pm at North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall (171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville, IL). The concert is part of Bang on a Can’s 25th year, as well as the All-Stars 20th year performing together. The music by Nancarrow, Gordon, Ziporyn, and Longstreth is included on the All-Stars’ latest double-disc album, Big Beautiful Dark and Scary, released in January on Cantaloupe Music.

Bang on a Can gives the World Premiere of Field Recordings at the Barbican on 20 March

London (February 24, 2012) — The Bang on a Can All-Stars, known for combining “the power and punch of a rock band with the precision and clarity of a chamber ensemble,” (New York Times), will be joined onstage by Mira Calix, Christian Marclay, and Nick Zammuto for the world premiere performance of Bang on a Can’s major new performance project, Field Recordings, presented by the Barbican (Silk Street, London) on Tuesday, 20 March 2012, at 7:30pm. The US premiere of the work will follow on April 28, 2012 at Lincoln Center in New York.
