May 20 & 21: Clarinetist David Krakauer performs at Pittsburgh Jewish Music Festival

PITTSBURGH, PA— Clarinetist David Krakauer, praised internationally for his astounding ability to play in a myriad of music genres with “prodigious chops” (The New Yorker) and “soulfulness and electrifying showiness” (The New York Times), will once again perform at the Pittsburgh Jewish Festival on Sunday, May 20 at 7:30pm at the Temple Emanuel of South Hills (1250 Bower Hill Road) and on Monday, May 21 at 7:30pm at Rodef Shalom Congregation’s Levy Hall (4905 5th Avenue). The concert will feature Osvaldo Golijov’s Ayre, the traditional Klezmer piece Der Heyser Bulgar, Alexander Krein’s Jewish Sketches for clarinet & string quartet, and a Sephardic work for strings by Pittsburgh composer David Stock.

David Krakauer releases Pruflas: The Book of Angels Vol. 18 - music by John Zorn - on Tzadik

May 2 and 3: Klezmer funk hip-hop group Abraham Inc. - Krakauer, Wesley, Socalled - in NYC and DC

New York, NY & Washington, DC – Abraham Inc. is an unprecedented collaboration among three cultural visionaries – champion of Jewish klezmer music and world-class clarinetist David Krakauer, legendary funk trombonist and arranger Fred Wesley (known for his performances with James Brown, Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, and many more), and hip-hop renegade Socalled. The multi-genre supergroup and a 10-piece cohort of their musical friends will be taking Abraham Inc. to New York and the Washington DC area for two performances in May 2012. On Wednesday, May 2 at 8:30pm, Abraham Inc. takes the stage at 92YTribeca (200 Hudson St.) in New York, and on Thursday, May 3 at 8pm, the group performs at the Music Center at Strathmore (5301 Tuckerman Lane) in North Bethesda, MD.

Jan 14: David Krakauer & Matt Haimovitz with Socalled in Akoka: The End of Time at Joe's Pub

NEW YORK, NY— Clarinetist David Krakauer, praised internationally for his astounding ability to play in a myriad of music genres with “prodigious chops” (The New Yorker) and “soulfulness and electrifying showiness” (The New York Times), along with musical pioneer cellist Matt Haimovitz, will present Akoka: The End of Time featuring beat architect Socalled, with violinist Maria Bachmann and pianist Geoffrey Burleson, at 9pm on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Joe’s Pub (425 Lafayette Street, NYC). Akoka: The End of Time comprises Krakauer’s own composition Akoka, Messiaen’s masterwork Quatuor pour la fin du Temps (Quartet for the End of Time), and Socalled’s astonishing coda Meanwhile. This is the second concert of DK55, in a series of concerts in New York celebrating Krakauer’s 55th birthday. Further concerts to be announced.

Nov 4: Checkpoint KBK - David Krakauer, Iva Bittova & Merima Kljuco - at the Nasher

DALLAS, TX – On Friday, November 4 at 7:30pm, the Nasher Sculpture Center (2001 Flora Street, Dallas) will present Checkpoint KBK with Music From Yellow Barn as part of its Soundings: New Music at the Nasher concert series. Checkpoint KBK brings together the unique talents of master musicians violinist-vocalist Iva Bittová, clarinetist David Krakauer and accordionist Merima Ključo. Checkpoint KBK was developed while the artists were in residence at Yellow Barn, a center for chamber music study and performance in Putney, Vermont. For this performance they will be joined by a string quartet of Yellow Barn alumni – Anna Elashvili and Keats Dieffenbach, violins; Margaret Dyer, viola; and Hamilton Berry, cello.
