New York, NY—Pianist Simone Dinnerstein will perform two concerts in January with American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME). On Saturday, January 30 at 8pm she will make her debut at Columbia University's Miller Theatre (2960 Broadway at 116th Street, NYC) in a concert entitled Bach and the Concerto as part of Miller's Bach and the Baroque series. The program includes Ms. Dinnerstein in selections from the Well Tempered Clavier, Book II; ACME performing selections from The Art of the Fugue, BWV 1080; and Ms. Dinnerstein and ACME in Concerto in D minor, BWV 1052 and Concerto in F minor, BWV 1056.

On Sunday, January 10 at 2pm, Ms. Dinnerstein and ACME will perform as part of PS 321 Neighborhood Concerts, a series that Ms. Dinnerstein founded this season at the Brooklyn public school her son attends and where her husband teaches. The concerts, which feature musicians Ms. Dinnerstein has admired and collaborated with during her career, is open to the public and raises funds for the school's Parent Teacher Association. The musicians performing donate their time and talent to the program. The program will include Bach's Concerto in F minor, as well as selections from Dvorak's Piano Quintet.

As implied by its name, ACME – the American Contemporary Music Ensemble – is primarily known for performing music of the 20th and 21st centuries. After hearing the group, Ms. Dinnerstein asked them to join her for these performances, as well as concerts in Texas and Vermont. She explains, "Bach's music is timeless, and I wanted to play with musicians who would bring a fresh voice to it – who would very naturally be inclined to play his music in a way that reflects the current times, our current sound world. I think ACME is a great fit for this program."

About Simone Dinnerstein: Brooklyn-based pianist Simone Dinnerstein gained an international following because of the remarkable success of her recording of the Goldberg Variations, released on Telarc in August 2007. The disc earned the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Classical Chart during its first week of sales and appeared on many "Best of 2007" lists including those of The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and The New Yorker. In August 2008, Ms. Dinnerstein released her second CD with Telarc, a live recording of her recital debut at the Berlin Philharmonie. Of the disc, which also ranked No. 1 on the Billboard Chart during its first week of sales, Gramophone reported, "this second CD of a Berlin recital provides ample evidence of gifts above and beyond the ordinary." Ms. Dinnerstein's latest recording, the complete works by Beethoven for piano and cello with cellist Zuill Bailey, received the Classical Recording Foundation Award and was released by Telarc in 2009.

Highlights of her 2009-2010 season include performances with the Tokyo Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, and the Minnesota Orchestra; and her debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus. Recently, she made her debut with the New York Philharmonic in July performing Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2, returned to the Aspen Festival for her third recital, performed the Goldberg Variations on Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival, and the complete Beethoven Sonatas for piano and cello at the Ravinia Festival with Zuill Bailey.

Ms. Dinnerstein's other recent performances include her recital debut at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, her third sold-out performance at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, recitals in New York at Town Hall and on the Lincoln Center Great Performers series, as well as in Paris, London, Copenhagen, Vilnius, Bremen, Rome, and Lisbon, and at the Stuttgart Bach Festival; plus debut performances with the Dresden Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, and Kristjan Järvi's Absolute Ensemble.

Since 1996 Ms. Dinnerstein has played concerts throughout the United States for the Piatigorsky Foundation, an organization dedicated to bringing classical music to non-traditional venues. Among the places she has played are nursing homes, schools and community centers. Most notably, Ms. Dinnerstein gave the first classical music performance in the Louisiana state prison system when she played at the Avoyelles Correctional Center. She also performed at the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women, in a concert organized by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to coincide with her BSO debut.

Ms. Dinnerstein is a graduate of The Juilliard School where she was a student of Peter Serkin. She also studied with Solomon Mikowsky at the Manhattan School of Music and in London with Maria Curcio, the distinguished pupil of Artur Schnabel. For two summers, she was a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center. Ms. Dinnerstein lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and son. She is managed by Tanja Dorn at IMG Artists.

About ACME: ACME is dedicated to the outstanding performance of masterworks from the 20th and 21st centuries, primarily the work of American composers. The ensemble aims to present cutting-edge contemporary literature by living composers alongside the "classics" of the contemporary. Time Out New York reports, "[Artistic Director Clarice] Jensen has earned a sterling reputation for her fresh, inclusive mix of minimalists, maximalists, eclectics and newcomers." In addition to cellist Clarice Jensen, core members of ACME include violist Nadia Sirota, violinists Miranda Cuckson, Yuki Numata, Ben Russell and Caleb Burhans, pianist Eric Huebner, flutist Alex Sopp, clarinetist Gilad Harel, and percussionist Chris Thompson. ACME members are graduates of The Juilliard and Eastman Schools of Music.

A regular guest of the Wordless Music Series, ACME devoted much of the 2008-2009 season to audience development and expansion. By performing contemporary classical music alongside indie/electronica artists, the ensemble is able to reach an audience beyond that of a typical classical music concert without sacrificing the integrity of the music or its performance. ACME has collaborated with Craig Wedren (former frontman of the avant-rock band Shudder To Think), Hauschka, and Jóhann Jóhannsson for Wordless Music concerts. ACME's relationship with the Wordless Music Series included a month-long residency at the Whitney Museum of American Art in June 2008. For each concert, ACME tailored a contemporary classical program to complement the indie-rock or electronica performer sharing the concert.

Other recent highlights include ACME's Carnegie Hall debut in March 2009 performing the world premiere of First Music competition winner Timothy Andres' Senior with the New York Youth Symphony in Stern Auditorium. ACME performed the world premiere of member Caleb Burhans' Super Flumina Babylonis for choir and chamber ensemble with the Westminster Kantorei in April 2009, and opened the TriBeCa New Music Festival at the Flea Theater in June 2009, performing works by young American composers Jefferson Friedman, Caleb Burhans, Ryan Streber and Nico Muhly.

In addition, ACME collaborated with the Brooklyn-based Grizzly Bear, performing with the band at their Town Hall Concert in June 2009, and on their album, Veckatimest (Warp), featuring strings parts by Nico Muhly. ACME also appears on the electronica duo Matmos' album The Rose Has Teeth In The Mouth Of A Beast (Matador), which features strings by Jefferson Friedman.
