May 24: Lisa Bielawa & friends from the Einstein on the Beach chorus at The Stone - one night only

New York, NY — On Thursday, May 24 at 8pm, composer and vocalist Lisa Bielawa will present a concert with friends from the chorus of Einstein on the Beach at The Stone (Avenue C and 2nd Street, NYC), as part of a series of performances at the East Village venue curated by Gyan Riley. Lisa Bielawa is the choirmaster of Philip Glass and Robert Wilson’s monumental opera, currently touring worldwide. The singers are preparing for their appearance at The Stone, which features vocal music by Bielawa, while on the road together.

May 21-22: Collective Memories in Fragments - Lisa Bielawa & Fernadina Chan - Boston Arts Academy

Boston, MA — Collective Melodies in Fragments, a collaboration between composer Lisa Bielawa and choreographer Fernadina Chan, with guest choreographers Adriane Brayton and Joe Gonzalez (both Boston Arts Academy alums), will be performed by students of the Boston Arts Academy at the Academy’s Benefit Gala on Tuesday, May 22 at 8pm and at a free Open Dress Rehearsal on Monday, May 21 at 8pm at the Boston Center for the Arts’ Cyclorama (539 Tremont Street, Boston). The Open Dress Rehearsal will include a Q&A with the choreographer and composer. Both dates will feature live music performed by Charles Dimmick, violin; Katherine Winterstein, violin; Wenting Kang, viola; Rafael Popper-Keizer, cello; Michael Norsworthy, clarinet; and Terry Everson, trumpet.

April: Lisa Bielawa’s new piece Tempelhof Etude is performed by The Knights chamber orchestra

New York, NY— During the month of April, The Knights chamber orchestra will perform composer Lisa Bielawa’s new piece, Tempelhof Etude, on tour in concerts throughout New York, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and Massachusetts. Tempelhof Etude, a piece performed without a conductor, was written especially for The Knights, and is the first musical chapter of Lisa Bielawa’s massive work Tempelhof Broadcast, a 60-minute piece for more than 600 musicians that will take place on the tarmac of the former Tempelhof Airport in Berlin in May 2013. Famous for its role in the Berlin Airlift in 1948-49, Tempelhof’s abandoned runways will be turned into a vast musical canvas, as professional, amateur and student musicians execute a spatializedsymphony. The Knights gave the world premiere of Tempelhof Etude in June 2011 at the Naumburg Bandshell in New York’s Central Park.

Apr 11: Lisa Bielawa performs in Chicago premiere of her new work with Chicago Chamber Musicians

Chicago, IL — Composer and vocalist Lisa Bielawa’s Graffiti dell’amante will receive its Chicago premiere performed by a string quartet of the Chicago Chamber Musicians (CCM) with Bielawa as vocal soloist at 7:30pm on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Roosevelt University’s Ganz Hall (430 S. Michigan, 7th Floor; Chicago, IL). The concert, CCM’s Composer Perspective performance for Aaron Jay Kernis, will also include Kernis’ Two Movements (with Bells) for violin and piano; Michael Gatonska’s The Moon of Falling Leaves (Arborial Night Music I); and Kernis’ Trio in Red for clarinet, cello and piano. A pre-concert discussion with Roosevelt University's Stacy Garrop will start at 6:45pm.

Premiere Commission Gala 2/13: Lisa Bielawa, Bruce Levingston, Brooklyn Rider & much more at LPR

New York, NY— On Monday, February 13 at 7:30pm, Premiere Commission will mark its 10th anniversary with a Gala Celebration at Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker Street, NYC). Pianist and Premiere Commission Artistic Director Bruce Levingston will give the world premiere of composer-vocalist Lisa Bielawa’s Rondolette, a piano quintet, with acclaimed string quartet Brooklyn Rider (Colin Jacobsen, violin; Johnny Gandelsman, violin; Nicholas Cords, viola; Eric Jacobsen, cello). Bielawa will also perform with Brooklyn Rider in her own work for string quartet and soprano, Graffiti dell'amante, and works by Henry Purcell.
