May 10: Maya Beiser and Michael Harrison perform Time Loops at the Atlas
Friday, May 10, 2013 at 2:27PM Washington, DC — On Friday, May 10, 2013 at 8pm, cellist Maya Beiser and composer/pianist Michael Harrison will perform music from their latest album Time Loops (selected among NPR’s top 10 recordings of 2012) at the Atlas Performing Arts Center (1333 H Street NE). Time Loopsincludes the mystical minimalist music of Arvo Pärt (Fratres and Spiegel im Spiegel) alongside two of Harrison's evocative Ragas and his epic multi-cellos piece, Just Ancient Loops – a work that unveils every aspect of the cello, from its most glorious and mysterious harmonics to earthy, rhythmic pizzicatos. The concert also includes Like Smoke, an arrangement of a 13th century liturgical Sanctus by Evan Ziporyn, in which Maya plays the cello and sings simultaneously. Maya Beiser and Michael Harrison are presented as part of the Atlas’ New Music series. Curated by Armando Bayolo, the series features cutting edge performances from leading contemporary music artists.
