6/7: Robert Paterson's music inspired by Thomas Edison & more at Merkin Hall - AME's Travelin' Music

New York, NY – Composer Robert Paterson’s Sextet and Sonata for Bassoon and Piano will be performed by the American Music Ensemble as part of Travelin’ Music on Thursday, June 7 at 7:30pm at Merkin Concert Hall (129 W. 67th St., NYC). The concert explores travel-inspired music and also includes Steve Reich’s Different Trains, John Adams’ Road Movies, D.J. Sparr’s Woodlawn Drive, selections from Erik Friedlander’s Block Ice and Propane, and Billy Strayhorn’s Take The A Train.

Boston Court 5/19: Marimbist Makoto Nakura - West Coast premiere of Robert Paterson's Forest Shadows

Pasadena, CA – Composer Robert Paterson’s Forest Shadows for marimba will have its West Coast premiere as part of a concert by master marimbist Makoto Nakura on Saturday, May 19 at 8pm at Boston Court Performing Arts Center (70 North Mentor Ave., Pasadena). Nakura’s concert will also include music by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Tsuneya Tanabe, Jacob Bancks, J. S. Bach, and Kenji Bunch.

May 4 & 6: Robert Paterson's A New Eaarth premiered by Bill McKibben with Vermont Youth Orchestra

Burlington, VT – Composer Robert Paterson’s A New Eaarth will be given world premiere performances by the Vermont Youth Orchestra and Vermont Youth Orchestra Chorus conducted by Music Director Jeffrey Domoto on Friday, May 4 at 8pm at the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center (122 Hourglass Drive, Stowe, VT) and on Sunday, May 6 at 3pm at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts (153 Main Street, Burlington, VT). The piece marks the culmination of Pateron’s three-year Music Alive! residency with the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association.

April 22: Gibbs & Main performs Robert Paterson's Sun Trio for Earth Day

Rochester, NY – Composer Robert Paterson’s Sun Trio will be performed by the string quintet Gibbs & Main and pianist Elaine Kwon on Sunday, April 22 at 6pm, at the First Baptist Church of Rochester (175 Allen’s Creek Road). Part of the EuphoNY 2012 series entitled Song of Light, all the music featured in the concert is inspired by nature in celebration of Earth Day and includes only music of living New York State composers. The concert also includes commissioned world premieres of Diego Garcia's Moon Currents and Carson Cooman’s In Beauty Walking, which is based on the nature inspired poetry of Mary Hunter Austin. Robert Paterson received his bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester.

Mar: Buffalo native Robert Paterson's piece performed by Vocalis Chamber Choir in 3 concerts

Buffalo, NY – Composer and Buffalo native Robert Paterson’s “Do not stand at my grave and weep” from Eternal Reflections will be performed by the Vocalis Chamber Choir in and around Buffalo, New York for three days in March. On Saturday, March 10 at 8pm, the choir will perform at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church (345 Main Street | East Aurora). On Sunday, March 18 at 4pm, they will perform at Blessed Trinity Church (317 Leroy Avenue | Buffalo), and on Thursday, March 22 at 7pm, they will perform at the Burchfield-Penny Art Center (1300 Elmwood Avenue | Buffalo). Entitled Spotlight WNY- Choral Compositions from Buffalo and Beyond, these concerts will pay tribute to great choral works from the area. “Do not stand at my grave and weep” is the 2010 winner of the Cincinnati Camerata’s Annual Composition Contest. The panel chose this work for, “its expressive choral writing, text painting and imaginatively beautiful textures.”
